Caitie is a romance novelist and film hobbyist who’s been friends with Rachel since they were teenagers. They live in an apartment together not far from the Loyola campus.She’s shy and timid overall, though light-heartedly sarcastic and much more talkative as she feels more comfortable with someone. She can sometimes be oversensitive and insecure, but she’s also kindhearted, loyal, and passionate. Caitie is introduced to the group right after the first experiment to film all subsequent experiments, since Joe’s camera work is… really bad LOL. She’s scared of the experiments the Flatliners are doing, but also in awe and is honored to be included—she’s determined to do her part and document everything as best as possible. She doesn’t stand up for herself much when Nelson patronizes her or Joe says she isn’t really part of the group, because she hates arguing and doesn’t want to end up being excluded.

Cait Fields is a writer working on a book about the history of the Gates family, delving into the story of their exile from the historical community due to their belief in the Templar Treasure. As a believer in the treasure herself, she’s looking to do what’s right and clear their name—if she gets to come along for an adventure to get the full story, well, that’s just a bonus.  ☆ BACKSTORY  
Growing up, Caitlin was always fascinated by stories of mystery and adventure. When she learned about the Templar Treasure as a teenager, she was fascinated—and quickly realized that the family still searching for it, the Gates, had been unfairly discredited and written off as conspiracy theorists. The story and its unfairness stayed with her for years, until finally as an adult and successful fiction writer, she came across yet another article denouncing the family and decided she wanted to help set the record straight with her first ever non-fiction book.Ben is reluctant at first—once he finds the treasure, he won’t need a book to let people know his family was right all along. Still, her persistence and genuine fascination with the story and hunt endear him to her, and he ends up agreeing.Cait starts working with Ben around a month before the expedition to the Arctic. As she’s mostly focused on the Gates family history, she doesn’t spend much time with any of the other crew members, only briefly crossing paths with Riley and Ian from time to time. Riley refers to her as “cute book girl,” whereas Ian calls her a distraction and a waste of time.She’s also following along with the crew’s current research as she’s learning the Gates’ backstory. When Ben tells her the crew is leaving for the Arctic to find the Charlotte, she insists on coming along—she wants to be there to document everything firsthand, not just hear about it when he gets back. 𝓑𝓮𝓷 𝓖𝓪𝓽𝓮𝓼: Starts off as a professional relationship built on a shared goal of clearing his family name. Originally thinking of her as a bit of a distraction and a hindrance to his search, he quickly grows to like her. She respects him a lot and her steadfast belief in the treasure is refreshing. The fact that she’s willing to risk damaging her career by writing about his family from a positive viewpoint proves to him her commitment and reliability. As their friendship deepens, he starts to value her perspective and views her as a true member of the team, even if he didn’t intend on taking her along at first. After all, there’s no harm in an extra pair of hands, even if she is a layman.𝓡𝓲𝓵𝓮𝔂 𝓟𝓸𝓸𝓵𝓮: They only see each other briefly at first, occasionally crossing paths thanks to their work with Ben. There’s a mutual physical attraction, though neither knows it. As they get to know each other through the course of the adventure, they bond over their admiration for Ben and their dedication to the hunt. Cait is very impressed with everything Riley does to assist in the search, which isn’t something he’s all that used to.
